Venues:
Foster Park- Rolleston
Selwyn Sports Centre- Rolleston
Sport Selection:
Runs for 6wks, students will spend the first 3wks at one sport and then the last 3wks at another sport.
We highly encourage students to select sports they have never tried or do not regularly participate in. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to try a new sport and pick up new skill sets.
Sports will be pitching their sessions for beginners.
When schools and students arrive at Winter Sport:
Students can head straight to the sports they have registered for. Sports have been instructed to start on time, so please make sure you are running 5-10mins ahead of time (if your school is late please remind students to join in and not cause to much interruption if the session has started). If your school does arrive early and the earlier session is still taking place please also remind students to sit and wait until that session has concluded (don't start playing with equipment unless instructed too).
Teachers roles:
During winter sport this year schools will be assigned a sport/s to actively supervising during their time slot.
Behaviour of students:
Schools need to be aware of which sports their more challenging students are involved in. We ask that schools support the sports coaches when it comes to student behaviour as the coaches are there to coach, not control behaviour.
Schools commitment to Winter Sport:
Attend all 6wks of Winter Sport - if a school chooses not to turn up to any of the 6wks they will be invoiced $12per student per wk missed. This is because the Selwyn Sports Trust is absorbing the cost for Winter Sport this year and it is a huge financial commitment.
If outdoor sports are cancelled, will still send students involved in indoor sports
Will have a teacher present at assigned sports to actively supervise
Cancellations:
All indoor sports will continue no matter the weather. If wet we will also try and move some of the other sports indoors where possible, schools will be required to still send those students involved in these sports along.
Selwyn Sports Trust Activators will make a decision regarding cancellation of outdoor sports before 7.30am. The decision will be made in conjunction with the Selwyn District Council. Schools will be emailed by 8am and it will be posted on the Selwyn Sports Trust Facebook page. If under extraordinary circumstances such as a sudden unexpected deterioration of weather, then cancellation may occur right up to the final moment possible to stop buses leaving schools. No school is to take responsibility for the decision not to participate. This is very unfair on the other schools and coaches.
Wet weather plan
Transport:
Up to individual schools
Safety:
We have asked all sports to identify their risks, and a plan is in place to eliminate or minimise each risk with identified controls to manage each risk
We have asked sports to have a first aid kits on hand and ask that all schools also bring a first aid kit and any specific medication students may require.
Rugby and Rugby League- Students involved in this sport will need to have mouth guards if they wish to take part.
Hockey- Shin guards and mouth guards are required.
Football- shin guards if you have them but not essential
Please make sure all equipment is named.
